Known Issue with App Logout Display: In Untappd 4.6.1, some users may still see what appears to be a logged-out state when returning to the app after extended background time. This is a display issue only—you remain logged in. We recommend you close and reopen the app to restore the correct authenticated state. We’re actively investigating a permanent fix for this issue.

Untappd has always been about discovery, community, and great beer. Today we’re expanding the platform beyond beer to include distilled spirits, wines, canned cocktails, THC‑infused drinks, coffees, sodas and more, reflecting the way brewers and consumers are embracing total beverage strategies. The number of styles on Untappd has grown from roughly 450 to over 900 unique styles. You’ll now see these new categories in search results, Top Rated lists, Trending categories and when friends check them in.
If you’d like to keep Untappd beer‑focused, use Settings to decide which drink types appear across Search, Discover lists, and Activity so you can customize your experience.
To manage which drink types appear for your account, go to: Settings → Account → Preferences → Drink Types. There, you can choose whether to show or hide:
You can update these preferences at any time if you have an Untappd account.
We’re still early in this testing journey, and we’re approaching these changes carefully over the next few months. Untappd will never lose its beer identity and will continue to stay true to its roots and we’re excited to make it better for every user who loves beer, sometimes drinks other things, and for friends and family of those that have been so passionate about Untappd for years, but may not always drink beer.
As Untappd grows to support more beverage types, we’re also focusing on the features and improvements that matter most to the community. Over the coming months, you’ll begin to see several updates designed to strengthen Untappd’s foundation while expanding opportunities for discovery:
A new end-of-year experience and beer box
We’re building a refreshed end-of-year recap that highlights your annual drinking trends in smarter and more personalized ways. Alongside it, we’re planning an updated end-of-year beer box for users who want a curated way to celebrate their year with beer.
New beer, mead, and cider styles
Every year, our volunteer moderation team reviews style proposals and votes on additions to the beer, mead, and cider lists. This year’s slate is in progress with the hopes of giving brewers and drinkers more accurate, modern categories for check-ins.
A redesigned Untappd app for iOS and Android
We’re actively working on a redesign of the Untappd app that aligns with the latest designs and features on both major operating systems. This includes cleaner navigation, improved accessibility, modernized visuals, and a smoother overall experience while staying familiar to long-time users.
Badge updates and expanded qualifications
With more styles now supported across the platform, we’re evaluating how badges unlock and exploring new badge paths for these newly added styles. Our goal is to maintain the fun of badge progression while ensuring your check-ins across both legacy and expanded categories count in meaningful ways. As of today, all badges except Wheel of Styles and New Brew Thursday will unlock with all newly added styles.
These updates continue our commitment to the beer community while opening new ways to discover the beverages you enjoy most.
As always, if you have questions, comments, or feedback for our team, reach out to help@untappd.com or our Support page! We’d be happy to help.
