x The Kernel Haynau’s Retreat Black Lager 5%

This is Newbarns’ modern take on a 1930 London Black Lager, brewed with Ben, Evin and Jonah from The Kernel. The original was brewed near where The Kernel is today in South London, using a slightly odd process: boiling down the sweetest mash runnings into a rich syrup which was added back before fermentation. The Kernel team have been instrumental in the Newbarns story as colleagues, mentors and friends – as well as designing Newbarns’ visual identity, Jonah also taught Newbarns co-founder Emma to brew.
