This time, in the middle of March, we visited our good friends at Counterpart Brewing—bringing not just love, but a touch of darkness along with us. What awaited us there? Good buddies. Great beer. Great stories. And casinos, too (oops!). The Counterpart Brewing crew had prepared some beautiful, full kegs for us—featuring a stout aged for 24 months in Willett Distillery rye whiskey barrels—which we brought back home. To that, we added our own touch of darkness: another imperial stout, aged for 27 months in St. Augustine bourbon barrels. The result is simply superb. Molasses. Dark chocolate. Prunes. Figs. It has a long finish. It’s round. It takes its time—like a flower waiting to bloom. It coats your palate in darkness, slowly tickling the back of your throat before sliding down with a sweet, enveloping, comforting warmth. The gardener of darkness welcomes you to his humble abode.
