THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING | Double

Double Stout11.9% ABV | 355ml Dageraad has come out with this beautiful gem of a double stout. The irony of having this thick, immensely dark stout have the word “lightness” in its name gave me pause…just long enough to pour the result into my glass. And the result? It poured a beautifully thick, deep, deep brown with a large volume of dark mocha tan head. Retention was fairly long lasting. Aromatic notes of dark roasted malts, coffee and chocolate were predominant. The tasting is rich, decadent, and viscous! The roasted malt bitterness is balanced by a gentle sweetness. Dark fruits, reminiscent of dates and figs, make a subtle appearance alongside of a touch of liquorice. Mouthfeel is wonderfully heavy and fairly creamy with the carbonation levels, while medium, still feeling smooth. Finish had a roll off of the bittersweet chocolate and coffee closing things off. – Dageraad Brewing
