New Badge: Netherlands x USAHops Brewing Contest

Netherlands x USAHops Brewing Contest Badge The hop fields of America have crossed the Atlantic — and have arrived in the Netherlands. Hop Growers of America (HGA) is teaming up with Untappd for a first of its kind brewing competition, and trust us, this one’s going to be a banger. If you’re new to HGA, think of them as the behind the scenes champions of U.S. hop growers. They support farmers, track the stats that keep the industry sharp, fund research, and spread the word about what makes American hops so special. They host technical seminars with master brewers, show up at global tradeshows, and run brewing contests around the world — all to spotlight the quality, consistency, and downright irresistible aroma profiles of U.S. hops. HGA has sent four standout U.S. hop varieties to each participating brewery:• Dolcita™/ HBC 1019 — Sweet citrus and tropical charm• Vista — Juicy, expressive, and built for modern styles• CTZ — Bold bitterness with resinous punch• Centennial — A timeless classic with bright floral citrus character Each brewery gets the same hops — but what they do with them is entirely up to their imagination. What’s in Your Fridge This Spring?

Why the modern cooler is getting more interesting. For years, the fridge was predictable: A few craft IPAs, a trusted lager, and maybe a hard seltzer or canned cocktail tucked in the back. But drinking culture isn’t static. It evolves. And this spring, more drinkers aren’t choosing between beer and something else — they’re choosing both. The modern fridge is about variety. Some nights still call for a crisp pilsner. Some afternoons call for a low-key lager. And increasingly, some moments call for a THC beverage. Not as a replacement. As an addition. The Rise of the « Mixed Fridge »Untappd users already understand the appeal of variety. You track different styles. You explore seasonal releases. You care about tasting notes and how a beverage fits a moment. That same mindset is now expanding into THC drinks.Instead of: Beer or no beer. It’s becoming: What fits tonight? The « mixed fridge » holds: Beer for game day A seltzer for light social hangs A spirit alternative for cocktail-style rituals THC sodas for evenings when you want the vibe without the hangover Choice is the new luxury. Flavor Still WinsCraft beer culture taught drinkers to care about flavor. That expectation doesn’t disappear just because the category changes. The best THC beverages aren’t medicinal or overly sweet. They’re built with flavor first — nostalgic soda profiles, fruit-forward seltzers, or refined mixers that feel at home next to a well-made cocktail. That’s where brands like Cantrip come in.With classic soda flavors like Cola, Orange, Root Beer, Grape, and Diet Cola — all crafted with a smooth, predictable lift — Cantrip was designed to sit comfortably in the same fridge as your favorite craft cans.Because taste is still the moat. Occasion > IntensityAnother shift happening in modern drinking culture: people are matching their drink to the occasion.• Hosting friends?• Backyard hang?• Music on the patio?• Solo unwind after work? The goal isn’t always « stronger. » It’s « what’s right for right now? »Sometimes that means a cold beer.Sometimes it means a 10mg THC soda.Sometimes it means alternating between both across the night. The ritual isn’t disappearing. It’s becoming more intentional. The Fridge as IdentityWhat’s in your fridge says something about you.Ten years ago, it might’ve been « IPA person » or « macro loyalist. »Now it’s more layered.Curated. Flexible. Mood-aware.And that’s what makes this moment interesting. The modern cooler doesn’t just hold beer. It holds options. So this spring, the better question might not be:Beer or something else? It’s: What’s in your fridge?

New Badge: Bock Beer Day (2026)

Cheers! It’s (almost) Bock Beer Day! Every March 20th, on Bock Beer Day, take a step back in history by drinking a traditional German bock. Here at Untappd, we don’t mind getting the celebration started a little early. Dating back to the fourteenth century, this dark lager was originally brewed in the northern town of Einbeck, Germany. During the seventeenth century, when bock beer traveled south to the city of Munich, the subtle differences in language meant that Bavarians started to mispronounce the beer « ein bock » instead of « Einbeck. » That word in German literally translates to « billy goat. » The name stuck and so did the image of the animal, which you’ll find on many bock labels to this day. One might even be tempted to say this beer style is the…GOAT. We wouldn’t argue with that. Badge Criteria: Check in any one (1) beer with the style of Bock – Doppelbock, Bock – Eisbock, Bock – Hell / Maibock / Lentebock, Bock – Single / Traditional, Bock – Weizenbock, or Bock – Weizendoppelbock between March 19 and 22, 2026. Can you name the six styles of Bock beer listed on Untappd? No peeking! So what style of Bock is your go-to? Got a favorite Bock of all time? Let us know @untappd!
