Cheers! It’s (almost) Bock Beer Day!
Every March 20th, on Bock Beer Day, take a step back in history by drinking a traditional German bock. Here at Untappd, we don’t mind getting the celebration started a little early.
Dating back to the fourteenth century, this dark lager was originally brewed in the northern town of Einbeck, Germany.
During the seventeenth century, when bock beer traveled south to the city of Munich, the subtle differences in language meant that Bavarians started to mispronounce the beer « ein bock » instead of « Einbeck. »
That word in German literally translates to « billy goat. » The name stuck and so did the image of the animal, which you’ll find on many bock labels to this day.
One might even be tempted to say this beer style is the…GOAT. We wouldn’t argue with that.
Badge Criteria:
Check in any one (1) beer with the style of Bock – Doppelbock, Bock – Eisbock, Bock – Hell / Maibock / Lentebock, Bock – Single / Traditional, Bock – Weizenbock, or Bock – Weizendoppelbock between March 19 and 22, 2026.
Can you name the six styles of Bock beer listed on Untappd? No peeking!
